There are two types of cards: Hero cards and Frame cards. Both types can have up to 4☆ rarity.
Hero cards and Frame cards are levelled up differently. However, levelling up for both types of cards requires the spending of coins.
You can level up Hero cards using bronze (500 EXP), silver (3000 EXP) and gold (10 000 EXP) training tickets. These can be obtained from completing any type of Quest, Patrols, certain Missions and raising your Heroes' affection levels. Training ticket drop rates increase when you complete a LEVELUP QUEST (QUEST > SUBQUEST/サブクエスト > LEVELUP QUEST).
Leveling up Frame cards requires other frames, instead of tickets. You can do this by clicking on a Frame card of your choice > Level Up/レベルアップ (at the bottom-right hand corner) and tap any space on the right to select Frame cards that you want to use as level-up items. These selected Frame cards will disappear from your collection once they have been used to level up another Frame card. A maximum of 20 Frame cards can be selected to level up a Frame cards at once. You cannot use Frame cards that are used in a Team to level up.
Aside from the Frame cards of the Heroes that can be obtained from Orders and Events, there are Frame cards of Helios Staff that exist specifically to level up Frame cards. This includes 1☆ Jaqueline, 2☆ Jack, 3☆ Nova and 4☆ Lily. These Frame cards are obtained from item drops during Quests. (The frames limited subquest refreshes every week, which means you can get 6 rubies each week!).
Limit breaking for Frame cards is done manually, through the Limit Break/限界突破 button at the bottom-right hand corner. A maximum of 4 similar Frame cards can be used to limit break one Frame card. You cannot use Frame cards that are used in a Team to limit break. Limit breaking Frame cards also requires the spending of coins. It is highly recommended to use copies of the same Frame card to limit break that particular Frame card instead of levelling it up.
Limit breaking for Hero cards is done automatically if you acquire a copy of the card through an Order. However, you can also limit break Hero cards manually using Hero Tokens, which you will get from extra copies of 2-4☆ Hero cards that have already been maxed out. This means that you don't necessarily need more than one copy of a Hero card to limit break it, as long as you earn enough Hero Tokens. Manual limit breaking is done through the Limit Break/限界突破 button found at the bottom-right hand corner when you select a particular Hero card.
Stats of Hero cards can be increased through completing each card's Hero Road, which can be accessed through the Hero Road/ヒーローロード button found at the bottom-right hand corner when you select a Hero card. For this, you will need Normal, Large and King Jacks that correspond to the specific element of the card i.e. Brave (red), Passion (yellow), Technique (green) and Cool (blue). Completing later sections of the Hero Road will also occasionally require Sector Medals that correspond to the Sector that the Hero is from.
Hero cards can be evolved through the Hero Road, which changes their CG. Evolution has to be done before completing later sections of the Hero Road, which open up when higher levels are reached. Aside from Jacks, evolution of any type of card, from 1-4☆, requires 5 Sector Medals that correspond to the Sector that the Hero is from.
Teams are composed by 4 Hero cards, a row of MAIN Frame cards and another 2 rows of SUB Frame cards.
To activate the different abilities or skills they have, the Frame needs to match certain aspects of the Hero card:
The MAIN Frame should match the Hero to activate its skills, and be the same element as the Hero to activate its abilities. In case of adquiring event Frames, these must be set as MAIN to activate the event bonus and gain more points per completed stage or boss.
In short: if the Frame and Hero card have the same character, then the skill will activate. If the Frame and Hero card have the same element, then the abilities will activate. If the MAIN Frame has the same element as the card but a different character, then only the ability will activate. Important to note that the abilities activate regardles of being equiped as MAIN or Sub.
When building your teams, it's recommended to take into account the skills and abilities both the Hero cards and frames have, which can affect the enemies, allies or the hero in question, and usually alter the offensive and defensive abilities, states or even heal, for example. The abilities activate automatically and affect the Hero in question. It's not necessary to make sure that the MAIN frame will match both the Hero and the element since sometimes the skill is usually more powerful than the ability, so it might be better to prioritize the Frame only matching the Hero.
The skills appear as icons under the Heroes in the battles, corresponding the 2 icons on the left to the Hero skills and the icon on the right to the MAIN Frame's skill. In case only 2 icons appeared, that means that the MAIN Frame doesn't match the Hero (Frame skills will specify what Hero they are limited to).
When choosing a team, it might be better to go with one that has Hero cards of the element that has advantage against the element of the stage you want to play. Sometimes it's best to prioritize the link skills between the Hero cards than the elements, but it's still recommended to choose cards that aren't at a disadvantage. It's also important to note that card rarity doesn't automatically equal strength and using maxed 2-3☆ Hero cards will make your team more powerful than a 4☆ Hero card.
You can also automatically sort out your teams! This might be the best at the beginning.
